Sports Insurance Cover?!?!

When taking part in sporting activities abroad, it is pretty important you are covered for any eventuality. There is a common thought that the EU health card that you are entitled to (for now!!) will allow free medical care for potential accident or injury. This is correct however, many people find out the hard way when it comes to the actuality of injury, that there is much more to the situation than simply initial medical care.

Here at Valencia Sports Tours, for many of our activities, we insist on those booking with us to obtain travel insurance specific to the nature of the sport they intend to partake in. Although we recommend you have your EU medical card as well, the insurance is vital in areas such as the need for extended stays due to injury, changing flights, repatriation, personal liability for injury caused to others etc, something that goes beyond the general medical care itself. Your average travel insurance too will not cover some activities so it is wise to seek out the right insurance for you.

Although we do think it wise to shop around, we recommend Sports Cover Direct as they are able to offer bespoke options for any number of sports and activities, plus should you already have personal travel insurance, such as annual cover or you have just already purchased basic travel insurance, Sports Cover Direct offer a “top up” option allowing you to pay a lower premium, so you can retain the use of your normal policy with the peace of mind that you will be covered for the sports undertaken.

In addition, if you are travelling as a club or team, there are group offers reducing the cost of your sports insurance cover by up to 10%.

Please feel free to click on the banner below and take a look around the Sports Cover Direct site and obtain a quote. We do not offer cover via our site or packages and although we do recommend Sports Cover Direct, there are others out there too if you want to compare options.

The Match

The Match

Real Sociedad have had a great season, sitting at time of publish in a Europa League spot, it is vital that they keep pushing for points right until the end of the season and a visit to a resurgent Valencia side is an exciting prospect.

Valencia are all but safe following a shocking first half of the season that saw them in a potential relegation batter. Following a stunning home win against Real Madrid, the results have improved somewhat and are now mid table. But with a die hard fan base not satified and still hurting from the last 18 months of under performing, finishing the season in style is a must, making this match have more importance to a team which looking at the table, doesn't have a lot to play for.

Valencia's most passionate and anticipated match of any season is against Real Madrid at home in the incredible Mestalla. No love is ever lost for this match and the atmosphere, especially as an evening match during the week, will be incredible.

Valencia are not having the best of seasons, but following a few decent results, are moving up the table and will want to move into the latter part of the season on a high with a crucial win. They will also want to put a stop on Real's charge for the title.

Witness some top level football with arguably the worlds best footballer CHRISTIANO RONALDO, plus the likes of BALE, BENZIMA and some of the Valencia youngsters that hope to follow in the footsteps of Los Che greats like Kempes, Cañizares, Ayala, Romario and more recently, David Silva, David Villa, Jordi Alba and Juan Mata.

We believe the package we have created is second to none in the Valencia region and cannot wait to host road cycling enthusiasts from across Europe and beyond.

The Valencia region has so many fantastic options when looking to create routes for Valencia Sports Tours, but Paul and Ismael believe they have sourced a number of 80-120km routes of varying levels which will offer those visiting a solid challenge at their particular ability, plus breathtaking coastline and beautiful mountain passes. In addition they have taken into account the quality of asphalt and quiet nature of the roads, something only a team who live and ride locally could source. Of course, if you have special requirements in respect of the cycling itself, please discuss with us, Paul and Ismael are happy to discuss further routes and challenges.

London’s Linklaters visit Levante Cricket Club

linklatersOn 13 October, London’s Linklaters travelled to Valencia to take on local cricket team Levante CC in a two match tour, plus plenty of time to take in the city and make the most of their time in Valencia.

Arriving on Thursday, Linklaters had organised with VST two matches, a T20 under the lights at Levante’s home ground, the VCG (or as officially known, Campo de Beisbol in the Turia), on Thursday evening and a limited over match during the day on Friday. With the team staying until late on Sunday, this also allowed them plenty of time to experience the city and all it has to offer.

Thursdays T20 saw Linklaters bat first after winning the toss. A new experience for the team from London, playing under the flood lights of the VCG, they worked the pink ball well and put on a respectable 152 from their 20 overs. This proved to be enough as Levante battled hard but after falling behind the run rate, their desperate attempts to claw back saw wickets fall and were all out for 123. A well fought contest was celebrated into the night, first at the ground where both sides enjoyed a beer or two before the touring side made their way into the old town to sample some of the local brew!

Friday morning saw a few sore heads but this wasn’t enough to dampen any of the cricket action with exceptional quality on show. Linklaters again batted first and after the best possible start from Levante CC with their first two balls of the innings from Orville Senhouse bowling both batsman, it took a sensational innings from Brannan of 161 to drive Linklaters to a cracking 40 over score of 304.

Knowing they had the batsmen to chase down this score, Levante set off in good form, keeping up with the run rate with opening batsman Tim Lucas cruising beautifully. Unfortunately, following a few wickets, the run rate began to get away from them before Barry Eaton joined Lucas at the crease and started a partnership that seemed to put the home side in the driving seat. On 97, Lucas was bowled trying to hit one to Barcelona and despite a valiant 84 from Eaton, Levante CC again fell just short of the chase with 278 from their 40 overs.

Following the match, both sides enjoyed tapas and Paella cooked outside at the ground under still glorious sunshine with plenty of well deserved cold beers. Both matches were close and played in great spirit and enjoyment.

With Friday night, Saturday and Sunday to enjoy, Linklaters had nights planned on both Friday and Saturday, taking in the vibrant nightlife Valencia offers, plus enjoyed a boat cruise on Saturday afternoon on the med, again under blue skies.

Many thanks to both sides for making this tour a great one!
